Entry requirements

English Language Proficiency: IELTS 5.5 (no individual band less than 5.0) or ISLPR 2+ on all skills or other - Click here for a list of all English Language test accepted by TAFE Queensland International

Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 10 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion. Click here for more information on the international education achievement levels equivalent to Year 10 and 12.

Students should be a minimum of 18 years of age. Student visa applicants under the age of 18 will be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. Resources required

You will require a valid and appropriate email address, access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations.

Timetable

TAFE Queensland North:

You will receive your class timetable at the Orientation session for your program. Many class timetables will also be available online prior to your program orientation (subject to availability). 

Placement

TAFE Queensland North:

All students must complete a minimum of 240 hours of vocational placement. This is spread across the duration of the program. TAFE will procure placements on behalf of the students, but it is the student’s responsibility to provide their own transport and accommodation if required.

Important Information

You must abide by industry and/or TAFE dress standards and remove jewellery and/or body piercing before entering the food preparation and serving areas.

Additional costs

TAFE Queensland North:

Prior to orienation students will be required to purchase a complete uniform kit comprising of a chef hat, two long-sleeved jackets, neckerchief, chef trousers, two aprons and appropriate safety footwear costing approximately $250. Additionally, a full set of tools and equipment costing approximately $250 are required to be purchased by each student. The faculty administration can provide a full list and information on where to purchase these items.

Please note that all students must be appropriately dressed and have the necessary equipment before entering any practical class.

If your application is successful, we will send you an Offer of Place letter. To accept it and secure your place in your chosen program, you will need to:

After you have accepted your Offer of Place, you will receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and with your CoE you can apply for your student visa. You will need to arrange your student visa before you come to Australia.

Please note that International Orientation day is compulsory. Students must attend the International Orientation Day before commencing their studies with TAFE Queensland.

Orientation

At the beginning of each semester orientation events are hosted across TAFE Queensland locations.

TAFE Queensland recommends you arrive two weeks prior to your course start date to allow time to organise and settle into your accommodation and prepare for your studies.

International Orientation which is usually conducted the week before study commences will help answer many of your questions about studying with TAFE Queensland. This comprehensive orientation covers many important topics including

  • Living in Queensland and understanding our Australian culture

  • Accommodation

  • Banking

  • Transport

  • Student safety

  • Learning support

  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), insurance and medical needs

  • Student Support Services at TAFE Queensland Brisbane

Program specific are also conducted one week prior to the start of study. This is an opportunity for you to meet your teachers and classmates, get to know your campus, and familiarise yourself with your study schedule.
